Christmas

This is the time of year when many forget the true meaning of Christmas. It’s not about getting presents or such. It’s about a Father who sent His only Son here to earth to save all that dwell here. I think John 3:16,17 says it best. “16 For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.   17  For God sent not His Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through Him might be saved.

This short prayer seemed appropriate for the season, enjoy.

Father, you have given us love. We were created by love and for love. Too often we forget that. Sometimes we mistake passion for love. Live coals become cold ashes. Anger replaces tenderness. Revenge becomes more important than forgiveness. Bitterness, disappointment blot out reason. This is where we are now, Lord.

There was the time when the sound of a voice, the touch of a hand, the willingness to give rather than to demand was the greatest desire. Then something happened, perhaps several things. Now we are at the place of dashed hopes. There seems so little to salvage. Mistakes loom large. Fear, anger, disillusionment have us tied in knots.

Before we can continue with any semblance of reason we need to admit these things to you Lord, to ourselves, and to others. We need to feel your forgiveness and a sense of your presence in this very moment.

Father God, we ask for your forgiveness, your protection. We ask that you grant us wisdom and guide us where you need us to be. Light our path Lord. Call upon us. Give us the strength and courage to restore your kingdom.
